My Big Girl is 4!

I can’t believe 4 years ago my first blog post was a photo of my daughters first school picture…Happy Birthday Sabrina…DADDY LOVES YOU!!!

Introducing Audrina Elise…

As many of you may know my wife and I had our 2nd baby girl recently and I was pretty eager to shoot my daughters first baby portraits. I finally got some time with her at the studio and snapped some pics of my baby girl doing what she does best…sleeping.  Here are a few of my favorite images of my newborn baby girl and her big sister Sabrina. Enjoy!

Merry Christmas!

I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! I hope everyone gets everything they asked Santa for!

My Baby Girl is 2!

If anyone has Father Time’s number can you please forward it to me so that I could ask him to pump the breaks a little?  I can’t believe how fast time has passed.  It seems like only yesterday I took my daughters birthday cake pictures here in my studio. There was fresh paint on the walls, it still echoed from the emptiness and now a year later and she’s is already TWO YEARS OLD! I can still remember when my wife was pregnant and I was telling the whole world how badly I wanted a boy but God had different plans and I can honestly say, I couldn’t be any happier with my little princess.   Here are a few pictures of her 1 Year birthday cake picture along with her 2 year old portraits we just recently shot in our backyard for her invitations! Enjoy! Happy Birthday to my little Tinkerbell. DADDY LOVES YOU!

Scott Kelby – My Inspiration

Every morning I drop off my daughter at daycare before heading to the studio. Same routine everyday…deactivate my alarm, check my voice mail, email, and see what’s new on Scott Kelby’s Blog.  I love going to Kelby’s blog for inspiration.  His blog doesn’t consist of anything repetitive.  I own several of Kelby’s books as well as other books he has recommended by Joe Mcnally and others on his Kelby Training website.  It’s always fun to watch D-Town TV and Photoshop User TV as well.

Recently though, Kelby posted a link to a list of photographers that inspire him on his blog and I’d like to dedicate this post to Kelby for the knowledge and inspiration I gain from his websites.  This past weekend I had a senior photo shoot scheduled for 5PM that was already rescheduled from the previous week because of rain.  At about 4:30 PM as I was getting my stuff ready to head out for the photo shoot I look outside and yeah once again…RAIN! RJ (the scheduled senior) sends me a text asking me if the shoot was still on due out the rain.  I told him to just come ot the studio and we’d shoot some studio stuff while we waited for the rain to stop.  I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to shoot in studio with a football player and all I could remember was Kelby’s photo session with a football player he had done a while back.  I had the image instilled in my head of the football player standing with the ball at his chest looking down at it with a black background.  I told RJ how to pose and this was the first shot I got of him and I felt like I had nailed it.  After we took a few more shots and finished the session outdoors I came back to the studio and searched for that picture that Kelby had posted on his blog and found it. Now my image isn’t the same but I tried my best:P

**Kelby’s pic is on the left with my photo of RJ on the right!

I commented on Kelby’s blog about my blog post and thanked him for his inspiration the other day and he commented back.  So cool to see how even photographers as big as Schott Kelby still check their blog comments!

JS Photo Studio Blog version 2.0

I decided to give my blog a face lift as there were a lot of features it was missing.  Gave it a cleaner and fresher look along with some sliding drawers on the left hand side  that will include my Facebook live feed and some coupons for my clients.  I will also be adding a Flash portfolio while still keeping the look and feel of the blog.  All my links are still the same just in a different order.  New images were added to the flash header above and you will see different images of myself every time you visit the website.  For now I only have 2 uploaded but will work on getting a few more up…When I want to share multiple images of one event, I can now create a flash style gallery that also acts as a slide-show (an example is under the sports section of the recent ski shoot I shot).  There’s too many new features to list so enjoy browsing the website.  I love my blog and love having each and every one of you come visit on a daily basis.  I will try my best to keep it as up to date as possible as my traffic is steadily increasing and is now averaging close to 250 unique hits daily.

Here’s a photo of what the blog looked like before…leave comments, let me know what you think of the new version!

The competition…

Ever since I switched from a traditional website to my current blog, I’ve really enjoyed posting both past and recent photo shoots that keep the blog fresh and up to date.  I try to get as much as my work on the blog as possible when I have the time and love receiving comments and emails from my clients and website visitors, but the annoying part to it all is how some of the local competition that has been around for generations knocks off or copys off my work.   At times it can be flattering when you hear of another photographer doing what you do but can also get annoying.
Last year I was hired by some WBCA Pocahontas Court Members and was able to capture some beautiful images and create some kickass memory albums for them.  I blogged about some fun shots I did with the court members in full costume either spinning a basketball or football.  I also did these shots for graduates in their cap & gowns with also their sport or activity of choice.  These are just a few of the shots that are often copied and immitated.
I understand there will always be takers in life and their acts of desperation to keep from losing anymore of their business to other young aspiring photographers as myself they choose to copy or take from our creativity. Eventually these Studio’s will crumble and go away due to their lack of creativity.  I have met and had the opprotunity to work with various photographers around town that have those creative juices; Tommy Saunders, Jesus Garcia, Jeff Castillo, & DJ Beck just to name a few.  I enjoy working with these new creative photographers. We learn from and help each other, but never take from each other. Out with the old and in with the new Laredo:)
